Disciples of
Jesus.
We hear the language “Christian” and “follower of Jesus” all the time, but what does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus? Put simply, it means you re-organize your life around three goals: know and follow Jesus, be changed by Jesus, and do what Jesus did. Our dream is that as we live this way, our lives, our communities, and our city will be transformed.
Everyone is a disciple of something or someone. You are following a belief system, a cause, a group of people, or a person. We are allowing them to determin how we live and view this life. Because a disciple of Jesus is leaving that old life behind to experience this new ‘full’ life with Jesus.
Lets start with the foundation. Who is a disciple of Jesus? Jesus spoke directly to this question, when he called Peter and Andrew to follow him. He gave us his model of discipleship.
Jesus himself said
“Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of people.“
We call this lifestyle Relational Disicple. Following Jesus is an entire life’s pursuit. It is not just an event on a Sunday but a “way” of life in community around the teachings of Jesus. To “practice the way of Jesus” is to adopt the lifestyle of Jesus, to put his teachings into practice in all aspects of your life. As we live this way, we are transformed from the inside out. We believe this kind of deep, authentic, radical change of character is possible even in the chaos of life. Through teaching, practice, community, and the Holy Spirit, we can recover our humanity in discipleship to Jesus.
